Hello and welcome to the brand new Tornadoes of South Dorset website. We hope you find this website informative, fun and easy to use!
Tornadoes is a competitive swimming club, offering everything from lessons for new swimmers to squad training for more advanced swimmers. We also offer landtraining, masters swimming and have a popular dive club that meets on a Saturday so there really is something for everyone.
Tornadoes has its base at the Osprey leisure centre on Portland, which was formerly the navy's private leisure facility, but if you haven't visited in a while, come down to see the recent changes to the reception area!
Lots of our swimmers compete in other sports and we are proud of our particularly close links with Dorset Pentathletes. We have club members who regularly take part in triathlons, biathles and biathlons and who also enjoy playing water polo.
If you have questions about our club, please contact our club secretary Sharon, or come down during one of training sessions to see how we work!
We look forward to seeing you soon!
Julie
Chair, Tornadoes
Fourteen year old Tornadoes of South Dorset swimmer Samanatha Dunning flew in the 100m butterfly in a time 1:11.32 in the Wales National Pool at Cardiff to gain a top first place and a gold medal. The annual short course meet was organised by Exeter City and attracted many of the top Walsh clubs. Samantha who lives in Weymouth trains at Tornadoes in South Dorset’s Performance Squad up to 12 hours per week under Head Coach Phil Daniels, who paid a glowing tribute to one of his golden butterfly swimmers, “Sam is a dedicated athlete she puts in a tremendous amount of effort into her training never shying away from the occasional tough butterfly training set.”
